Colorado football legend Shedeur Sanders took an epic slide to the fifth round in the NFL Draft, sending shockwaves across the sports world. The former Buffaloes quarterback landed in Cleveland with the No. 144 pick.
Sanders and his father, Deion, joined the legendary Tom Brady on Sirius XM’s “Let’s Go!” show well before the draft. In a joking manner, Coach Prime asked Brady if a college kid like his son needs a Rolls-Royce. While playful in his tone, Brady gave a blunt and honest response that has aged well for the Shedeur doubters in the wake of the video’s resurfacing.
“I think he needs to get his ass in the film room & spend as much time in there as possible,” Brady said. “Less time in the car and more time in the film room.”
Brady’s advice hinted at Shedeur’s lack of professionalism that seemingly led to his epic landslide at the draft. Reports of a $1 million celebration party and intentional sandbagging of various pre-draft meetings have only highlighted a lack of film-room focus and professional intentions.
Shedeur also fumbled his combine interview with the New York Giants by failing to detect intentional mistakes in Brian Daboll’s playbook. With plenty of evidence stacked against his work ethic in the film room, Shedeur has a lot to prove as he begins his NFL journey with the Browns.
From a projected top-five pick set for almost $50 million in his first contract to a fifth-round selection with a $4.5 million total over four years, Shedeur has received the ultimate slice of humble pie from the NFL. Only time will tell if Shedeur’s fall in the draft made sense for all of the teams that passed up on him.
