Prediction: Notre Dame set to add son of NFL legend image

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a busy week ahead on the recruiting trail, as three top prospects are set to come off the board who consider them a serious contender.

First up is Aledo (Texas) four-star wide receiver Kaydon Finley, but that battle is tight between the Texas Longhorns and Marcus Freeman's program.

Just one day later it will be Brophy Prep (Arizona) wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald's turn.

Arizona. Wide receiver. Fitzgerald.

Sound familiar?

It should.

Fitzgerald is the son of Arizona Cardinals legendary wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who famously had more tackles off his own team's interceptions than he did drops in his NFL career (37 tackles, 29 drops).

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound pass-catcher is set to announce his commitment Saturday at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.

Watch it here:

Fitzgerald is down to a final four of Clemson, Notre Dame, Stanford and UCLA, but all signs point to the Fighting Irish securing his commitment.

Current pledges are abuzz about possible additions this week, and both 247Sports and On3 consider Notre Dame an overwhelming favorite to add the coveted pass-catcher - with On3 giving Freeman's program an 89.1 percent chance of securing his commitment.

On Sunday, the Fighting Irish are also awaiting the decision of Red Oak (Texas) four-star wide receiver Brayden Robinson.

Regardless of how the three commitments unfold, it stands to reason Notre Dame fans will be watching very closely when the son of an NFL legend announces this weekend.

What would Notre Dame be getting?

Fitzgerald is a three-star recruit, rated the nation's No. 488 overall prospect and No. 79 pass-catcher in the 2026 class.

As a junior, the Arizona product hauled in 52 receptions for 720 yards and 9 touchdowns.

But he's a late-bloomer with obvious upside.

Here's what 247Sports had to say about Fitzgerald as a prospect:

"Fitzgerald has made a big jump in his development over the last year and especially this off-season. He has clearly established himself as one of the top players in the region and one of the better receivers nationally as well."

"Has a strong, athletic frame with big hands and has improved his twitch and athleticism. He’s moving more fluidly, looks more explosive gettign down the field and has more juice in his game from an athletic standpoint. He was always polished in terms of his route running and ball skills, which isn’t surprising when you consider his father Larry Fitzgerald was one of the most technically sound receivers to ever play the game."

"To see the jump in athleticism has been encouraging and he’s also filling out his frame, pushing 200 pounds now and looks stronger and is playing with a ton of confidence. He’s winning jump ball battles, catching the ball through contact and his game is definitely trending in the right direction right now."

"A legitimate high major, NFL prospect in his own right and has the tools to be an immediate impact player at the next level as well."
