Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck talked for 13 minutes at Big Ten Media Day — and even though only one reporter got a question in, he had no shortage of things to say.
He went into detail about the team’s structure this season and how they see themselves — especially using one key word: “multipliers.” So, what does that mean? Fleck explained it clearly.
“One word to describe this team in 2025 is they are multipliers,” Fleck said. “They genuinely want others to find success. It doesn’t matter if it’s offense, defense, or even their own position group — they’re all about lifting each other up and getting better together.”
That mindset, Fleck said, builds a culture where effort stacks up. One player’s energy fuels the next, and pretty soon, the whole team’s moving forward together.
“Many teams just add talent, but this group looks to multiply,” Fleck said.
To Fleck, the real difference with this group is how they show up for each other. Growth isn’t just a personal goal — it’s something they chase together. Guys aren’t worried about outshining each other. They’re focused on helping the next man get better.

That kind of energy spreads fast. One player’s progress fuels the rest, and the momentum just keeps building.
It’s not about stats or highlight reels. When one group improves, the rest of the team rises with it. Fleck sees it as something bigger than football — a culture that lifts the whole program.
That’s what he means by multipliers. And it’s why this team heads into the season with real belief they can take a step forward. After going 8–5 last year, they’re hungry for more.
Fleck also pointed to what’s happening off the field — in workouts, film rooms, team meetings. Players are holding each other accountable and keeping the standard high without needing coaches to step in.
He’s not out here making bold predictions. But he’s pretty sure that if this group sticks with that mindset, they’ve got a real shot at something special.
