Saquon Barkley is enjoying the spotlight of being on top of the NFL mountain, but for the former Penn State star, he is slowly recognizing the game may not be loving him back.
During a recent edition of "Green Light With Chris Long," Barkley hinted at a possible early retirement, oddly similar to Barry Sanders' in 1999.
"I'll probably be one of those guys that it'll be out of nowhere," Barkley said. "I'll probably just wake up one day, whether it's next year or 2 years & just be like, 'Yeah it's over' - Like Barry Sanders."
Barkley, 28, has enjoyed an illustrious career thus far after a notable Penn State stint.
Barkley credited Nick Sirianni for the way he has grown as a running back, speaking to media members before the Super Bowl in February.
"One of my favorite quotes that he makes all the time is, 'You can't be great without the greatest of others,' and that's how it works," Barkley said during Super Bowl opening night. "So we have a great team, but we all want to do it together, and that's the reason why we've been successful, and it's going to take everyone again this Sunday."'

The Philadelphia Eagles blanked the Kansas City Chiefs less than a week later, winning the game 40-22 for their first title since 2018.
Barkley finished this past season with 13 touchdowns, as he rushed for 2,005 yards while averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
If Barkley were to retire, it would likely leave question marks about what could have been.
If not, Barkley likely has three to five years left to stamp his Eagles legacy.
Either way, it's a nugget still in its early infancy as the NFL season is three months away.
