After Penn State's disappointing loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff Semifinal last season, the team seemed dissatisfied with the outcome.

Despite having NFL talent throughout the roster, 14 starters from last year have returned for the 2025 season. Two of those players include quarterback Drew Allar and running back Nick Singleton.

The quarterback and running back formed one of the nation's top duos in the country in 2024. The two will try to help push Penn State to not just a Big Ten Championship, but a National Championship as well in 2025.

Heading into this season, both Allar and Singleton were included in the 2025 Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list. The award is given to the best player in college football annually.

The two Penn State players are among 46 athletes who are nominated to the award's preseason watch list. Other top names that are on the list include Texas's Arch Manning, Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love, Alabama's Ryan Williams, and Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith.

Allar finished with 3,327 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, six rushing touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 2024. He is one of the best quarterbacks in college football and was named to the Maxwell Award watch list.

Singleton had 1,099 rushing yards, 375 receiving yards, and 17 total touchdowns last season. He was also named to the Maxwell Award watch list for the upcoming season.

The award will narrow down to 10 semi-finalists in November and three finalists in December. The winner will be announced on December 12.
