LSU Tigers QB Garrett Nussmeier has lately been trending as the signal-caller to look out for during the 2025 season. His head coach, Brian Kelly, and analysts alike have high expectations for him to save the program’s reputation after two straight years of negative momentum since Kelly’s arrival.
So does SEC mouthpiece Paul Finebaum, through his Heisman Trophy expectations.
Finebaum, who initially thought that Texas Longhorns’ QB Manning would be taking home the Heisman Trophy, has now changed his candidate to Nussmeier.
"If LSU has a big year, which is being projected, a lot of the reason will be because Garrett Nussmeier is so good. He will be a Heisman finalist,” Finebaum commented on The Paul Finebaum Show.
“If you tell me LSU is 10-2, and they're a contender for the SEC, and they're in the playoff, then I would be willing to bet you that Garrett Nussmeier will be on the front row of the Heisman presentation."
It is not just the Heisman glory that Nussmeier would be competing for, though.
Playing in the NFL has been Nussmeier’s childhood dream, as he articulated a few days back.
“[The] NFL is something I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid. To even fathom of making a decision to go play in it, or come back to my dream school…it’s two dreams. So it was definitely a surreal feeling, for sure… I’m full a 100% [sure] that I made the right decision,.”
So there is little chance that he will not give his best in what is expected to be his final season in college football.
Not only will it end his collegiate career on a high note, but it will be the stepping stone to his childhood dream.
We’ll see how well he lives up to everyone’s expectations, and his own.
