The Oregon football program received some negative news on the injury front Monday afternoon, as it learned that it will be without one of its star freshman for an extended period of time due to injury.

Trey McNutt, a five-star defensive back prospect, broke his right leg during the team's fall training camp, according to On3's Pete Nakos. A timetable for McNutt to return to the field has yet to be established.

McNutt was On3/Rivals' No. 26 national recruit, in addition to its second-best safety and second-best player state of Ohio, in the class of 2025. He joined wide receiver Dakorien Moore (No. 5 overall) and cornerback Na'eem Offord (No. 12) as five-star prospects to commit to the Ducks' incoming freshman class, which ranked fourth in the nation in On3/Rivals' team rankings for the most recent recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot, 180-pound native of Cleveland was expected to contribute — and, potentially, even start — in Oregon's secondary during his first collegiate season.

McNutt received over three dozen Division I scholarship offers while being recruited, including from notable programs such as Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee and Michigan. He committed to the Ducks over the Buckeyes, Texas A&M, Florida and USC (Southern California) on Aug. 3 and officially signed with Oregon on Dec. 4.

Without McNutt in the picture for the time being, Oregon will hope it doesn't suffer any more injury setbacks ahead of its season opener on Aug. 30. The Ducks will take on Montana State at Autzen Stadium at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. local) in a game that will air on the Big Ten Network.
