The Oregon Ducks could be left in a world of disappointment regarding the latest development that would directly impact their 2026 recruiting class.

Although already considered one of the nation’s best, Oregon had been zeroing in on Jireh Edwards, a five-star safety. According to On3, however, Edwards, a Maryland native, is possibly seeking other options with SEC conglomerate Alabama in the mix.

Analyst Steve Wiltfong was blunt in his assessment of Edwards possibly not ending up in Eugene after all.

“I think it's Alabama now,” Wiltfong said.

This is a far cry from Edwards’ initial thoughts after a visit to Eugene earlier this spring.

“The grass is damn green in Eugene I can say that for sure,” Edwards told On3. “They got a great environment, they got the culture. It was great.”

Edwards even spoke highly of coach Dan Lanning during his visit.

“He’s a great guy," Edwards said. "He’s a great father. He definitely cares about his players,” Edwards said. “Guys that start at Oregon don’t transfer out of Oregon. He makes sure his guys are good, he cares about players, definitely people in the building he cares for. He cares for the assistant, the coaches, anybody eating at Oregon. He’s building something special.”

Regardless, this should be an interesting recruitment conclusion as Edwards plans to give his verbal July 5.
