The Ryder Lyons sweepstakes just got a whole lot more interesting Tuesday morning. Ranked as the best quarterback in California, Lyons has yet to decide as to where he will play college football next fall, but a Big Ten powerhouse could be in the mix.
After losing out on Georgia commit Jared Curtis, the Oregon Ducks and coach Dan Lanning could get some good news regarding a Curtis alternative in Lyons. According to On3's Hayes Fawcett, Lyons will visit Eugene "this weekend."
Lyons spoke highly of the Ducks' coaching staff earlier this spring about why he'd be a natural fit in their offensive system.
"Me and Coach Stein have a great relationship, probably the best out of any other coaches," Lyons said, per On3. "They’ve been recruiting me the hardest probably, the whole time … how they’re recruiting, a lot of people like to say it’s all Phil Knight money, but they don’t really understand how good they recruit … their culture is probably one of the best I’ve seen. How they play as a team, how they interact with each other."
The Ducks' 2026 class is already solid. According to 247Sports, they rank fifth nationally with 19 pledges.
If Lyons were to commit, the Folsom product would join a host of talent, which includes the likes of quarterback Akili Smith Jr., linebacker Nasir Wyatt, and others.

Although Lanning has swung and missed in recent weeks, landing Lyons would give him the momentum he needs to keep building toward more postseason success.
After this weekend, the Ducks' recruiting scene will become a lot clearer.
