Oregon's football program has its savior.
Or to be more accurate, its Messiah.
Four-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton committed to the Ducks on Friday, choosing Oregon over offers from the likes of Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State, Miami and Syracuse.
Hampton is the No. 1 ranked recruit in the state of New York.
He shines on fields in Rochester, New York for James Monroe High School.
In his junior season, Hampton had 21 touchdowns and 1,900 all-purpose yards. When he has the football in his hands, he runs like he's playing on a different speed than anyone else around him.
Hampton is listed at 6-foot-1, 187 pounds.
He's not the first exhilarating recruit from the city of Rochester to commit to Oregon.
East High School's Seven McGee once was a top recruit heading to Oregon, but he couldn't quite stick in a college journey that eventually took him to Jackson State and Albany.
Hampton will have one more fall of high school football to play before he makes the cross-country trek to Eugene.
Oregon fans sure hope he lives up to his name.
