Why one QB has potential to replace Shedeur Sanders at Colorado image

Shedeur Sanders is no longer with the Colorado Buffaloes, which leaves a fairly substantial hole at the QB position, despite what Sanders' draft position ended up being. He was good with Colorado, and now they have to determine which QB will replace him.

They have true freshman Julian Lewis, who is currently in a position battle with Liberty transfer QB Kaidon Salter. The competition between those two to take over for Sanders is a legitimate competition, but Lewis could end up being the guy, PFF's Max Chadwick said

"While Salter has 29 collegiate starts to his name and an excellent 89.8 PFF grade since 2023, head coach Deion Sanders still brought both quarterbacks to Big 12 Media Days, thus tipping his hand that Lewis is very much competing for the starting job," Chadwick revealed.

At 6'1" and under 200 pounds, Lewis is not an imposing physical force. He also doesn't have any elite tools, but he is incredibly accurate and polished for a true freshman. "[His] game more closely resembles Shedeur’s than Salter’s does," Chadwick added.

The freshman was the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year in 2022, the National Sophomore of the Year in 2023, and a first-team All-American in 2024 before going to college. Lewis won Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year twice, a feat that only Trevor Lawrence has ever matched, so he has a real shot at succeeding Sanders in Colorado.
