The Michigan Wolverines may have received punishments from the NCAA Friday, but Sherrone Moore’s program isn’t having trouble attracting top prospects.

Five-star recruit and No. 1 running back Savion Hiter has committed to play for Moore, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported Tuesday on Twitter

The 5-foot-11 Virginia native is ranked as the top running back prospect in the class of 2026, per both Rivals and 247Sports. Hiter received notable offers from Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia, meaning his choice to head to Ann Arbor is a big win for Moore’s program. The running back is the first five-star recruit in the Wolverines’ 2026 class.

Despite the obvious success of securing a top prospect like Hiter, some fans on Twitter are already sharing doubts.

However, many Michigan fans were just thrilled to beat out defending national champion and top rival Ohio State for the running back.

Many expected Hiter to head to Knoxville and play under Josh Heupel’s Volunteers.

Regardless of the Twitter masses’ reactions, this commitment is an undeniable win for Moore and the Wolverines.

Michigan football’s 2026 class is 22 recruits deep and currently ranked 10th-best in the country, per 247Sports. Hiter might be the only five-star recruit, but the Wolverines weren’t exactly struggling before his commitment — over half of Michigan’s class of 2026 are four-star athletes.

The 13 four-star commits include three defensive linemen (Titan Davis, Alister Vallejo and McHale Blade), two wide receivers (Zion Robinson and Travis Johnson) and two edge rushers (Carter Meadows and Julian Walker). Plus, quarterback Brady Smigiel, offensive tackle Malakai Lee, tight end Matt Ludwig and cornerback Dorian Barney.
