Recruiting for the 2026 season is hot right now, and perhaps no team is hotter than the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Recruits continue to roll in, but among the early ones, the Gophers might have the most impactful. They've officially gotten a commitment from Roman Voss, their biggest addition in a long time.

Roman Voss marks huge addition for Minnesota

Roman Voss, the flex tight end, officially committed to Minnesota. Among other teams, the Golden Gophers beat out the vaunted Alabama Crimson Tide, potentially marking a shift in the perception of the college football program. Alabama still has plenty of good recruits, but this is a huge win for a smaller school.

"P.J. Fleck and his staff secured their most important commitment... to land the top-ranked in-state prospect," CBS Sports' Josh Edwards and Chance Linton said. "The Top247 athlete becomes not only the top-ranked member of Minnesota's 2026 class, but also the program's highest-ranked commitment since All-American safety Koi Perich in 2024."

Voss is a two-way star like Travis Hunter, though he was recruited by the Gophers to play tight end. He'll be a big upgrade for them regardless of whether or not they attempt to let him play offense and defense. Hunter was a rare player, so it would be a surprise if Voss is able to emulate him this season.

The CBS insiders ranked this addition a 9/10 on the impact scale, making it the biggest, most impactful addition so far. There have been several good recruits today, but none got as high of a grade on the insiders' scale as Voss to Minnesota. This is a "game-changer" for the Golden Gophers.
