The Minnesota Vikings have something up their sleeve. No one knows what’s going on, but it seems apparent that they are hiding that they don’t like Michigan Wolverines football legend J.J. McCarthy.
They’ve also bumbled this offseason worse than anyone could. Which is very shocking because head coach Kevin O’Connell has just worked magic with so little.
What if this entire time, the Vikings, with rumblings of the organization not impressed with McCarthy, were looking to add some talent?
Evan Massey of Newsweek believes the team can make judgments on McCarthy quickly, given their first three opponents.
“Without seeing what he can do on the field, there is no guarantee that Minnesota will see him become a legitimate starter in 2025. There is a lot riding on his ability to step in and play at a high level, but the Vikings cannot be guaranteed to see him succeed,” Massey wrote.
“It will be interesting to watch the Vikings and McCarthy early on during the 2025 campaign. His first three career starts, assuming he does win the job, will come on the road against the Chicago Bears and then at home against the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals.”
The Vikings lost Sam Darnold to the Seahawks, but they did get Sam Howell, a good player but probably not the franchise guy. They also lost Daniel Jones.
Minnesota could go and entertain the thought of Aaron Rodgers again, and that might not be a bad idea if JJ isn’t ready and Howell isn’t it.
The Vikings' schedule is very promising, and with Rodgers coming in, he would only play six outdoor games. That isn’t including playoffs, of course.
Although it’s tied for the fifth-toughest schedule for 2025, Rodgers would be a great addition. Maybe he’d change the narrative, as he has dominated that division for years.
Rodgers may do well inside. Brett Favre did.
Favre ultimately did lose in the playoffs, but Rodgers could break a curse and a looming prophecy that people have had over his head involving the Vikings.
Minnesota may not be a Super Bowl contender right now, but if Rodgers joined the Vikings, they could be.
