The buzz around Miami's Carson Beck has been nothing but positive through camp so far.
Many initially worried about the Georgia transfer, citing his issues with the Bulldogs. After a strong sophomore season, Beck struggled with inconsistency last year despite leading Georgia to an SEC championship and College Football Playoff berth.
Another concern was his arm, which he injured in the SEC title game and required surgery in the offseason.
Now, Beck’s arm appears fully healed, and he’s taking firm control of the Hurricanes’ offense under coordinator Shannon Dawson. In fact, Dawson believes Beck could turn out to be just as successful as Cam Ward.
“Shannon [Dawson] loves him,” a source close to the offensive coordinator told On3. “He thinks he has another No. 1 pick in Carson.”
Still, not everyone is convinced. In his bold predictions for the season, The Athletic’s Christopher Kamrani said he believes Beck will eventually lose his job.
“Carson Beck will be replaced as Miami’s QB by late October,” Kamrani predicted.

For that to happen, Beck would have to regress significantly from last season — or suffer another injury. After all, the main reason Mario Cristobal and Miami pursued Beck, along with several other top transfer quarterbacks, was because they lacked trust in what was already on the roster.
Emory Williams, who has been with the program since 2023, had the opportunity to make his case in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State. Playing the entire second half, Williams went 5-for-14 for 26 yards and one interception as Miami fell 42-41.
The Hurricanes also have a true freshman in former four-star Luke Nickel, who excites the coaching staff but isn’t expected to take over until next season. Redshirt freshman Judd Anderson is another depth option.
Beck, meanwhile, will have a stronger supporting cast than he did last year at Georgia. The offensive line is projected to be one of the nation’s best, and while the receivers are young and unproven, they bring plenty of upside.
Needless to say, it would be a disaster for Miami if Beck were benched by October. That would likely mean the Hurricanes had already fallen to Notre Dame and Florida — and possibly even South Florida — before heading into a pivotal Oct. 4 matchup at Florida State.
