Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are hoping to build off a strong season from a year ago, but on Wednesday morning, their wide receiver room took a bit of a hit.
Redshirt freshman Jaidyn Doss, a former three-star recruit from the 2023 class, announced he’s entering the transfer portal — leaving Nebraska and quarterback Dylan Raiola with a little less depth at a key position.
Doss wasn’t expected to play a major role this season, as he was buried on the depth chart.
Still, losing a player this close to fall camp is never ideal. He may not have been a focal point in the offense, but he did offer some gadget potential — the kind of versatility that’s always valuable over the course of a long season.
His departure also raises questions about how confident the staff is in the younger receivers stepping into larger roles. Nebraska brought in new faces through both recruiting and the portal, but every rep counts in a quarterback’s first full season — and everybody in that room matters, especially when it comes to building chemistry and depth.
With just two career receptions for 20 yards, Doss didn’t get much of a chance to contribute during his time in Lincoln. But now with a year of development under his belt, he’ll now look to carve out a larger role at a smaller program.

He’s likely betting on himself to earn immediate playing time — something that wasn’t going to happen this fall with the Cornhuskers. And while the move makes sense for Doss, the timing certainly doesn’t help Nebraska.
Doss becomes the latest roster casualty for Nebraska as camp approaches. His departure might not shake up the depth chart, but it’s another chip off a receiver room that’s already thin.
