Ohio State standout Jeremiah Smith knew right away when he went to name the greatest wide receiver in Buckeyes history. He went directly to Hall of Famer Cris Carter.

Buckeyes star shares his wide receiver Mount Rushmore without pause

Speaking at Big Ten Media Day, the sophomore wideout was asked to name his personal Mount Rushmore of Ohio State receivers. He opened his answer with confidence.

“One, you got to go the great Cris Carter,” Smith said.

Carter starred at Ohio State from 1984 to 1986, earning consensus All-American honors and two First-Team All-Big Ten selections. He finished his college career with 168 catches for 2,725 yards and 27 touchdowns before going on to a Hall of Fame NFL career that included eight Pro Bowl appearances and over 13,000 receiving yards.

Smith rounded out his top four with Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Ted Ginn Jr., forming a list packed with both explosive playmakers and polished route runners from different eras of Buckeye dominance.

The media day moment comes as Smith prepares for his second season with the defending national champions. Ohio State won the first-ever title in the new 12-team playoff format last year, beating Notre Dame in the final after victories over Oregon, Texas, and Tennessee.

Smith had a massive freshman season, leading the team with 1,315 receiving yards, 15 touchdowns, and 76 catches, earning Freshman All-American honors in the process. He’ll now be a central figure in the Buckeyes’ attempt to repeat in 2025.

The Buckeyes return one of the strongest rosters in college football, and Smith’s confidence and skill will make them another tough out for any opponent.
