Georgia Tech is coming off a memorable season — and they’re making sure it won’t be forgotten.
In Brent Key’s third year as head coach, the Yellow Jackets finished with a second straight 7-6 record. Apparently, that was enough for the program to commemorate the campaign with bowl rings.
That decision has sparked some head scratching, considering Georgia Tech lost the Birmingham Bowl to Vanderbilt, 35-27.
“The bowl rings not only commemorate the Yellow Jackets’ berth in the 2024 Birmingham Bowl, which gave Tech consecutive bowl appearances for the first time in a decade, but also celebrate the Jackets’ top-10 wins over No. 10 Florida State and No. 4 Miami (Fla.), as well as their first undefeated campaign at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field in 25 years,” Georgia Tech’s official website noted.

The Yellow Jackets opened the season in Dublin, Ireland, with a 24-21 upset over No. 10 Florida State in an ACC matchup that sent the Seminoles into a downward spiral. Then in early November, Georgia Tech knocked off No. 4 Miami at home in a 28-23 stunner that derailed the Hurricanes’ postseason hopes.
There was another highlight — though arguably overlooked due to the final result. In a thriller against in-state rival Georgia, the Yellow Jackets pushed the Bulldogs to eight overtimes before falling 44-42.

If anything is worth celebrating, it’s that Georgia Tech posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2013-14. Still, many would argue that milestone falls short of warranting any sort of ring ceremony or otherwise.
