Georgia Bulldogs football coach Kirby Smart might have bagged the biggest steal of 2025 in No. 1 QB of the 2026 class, Jared Curtis.
Curtis, who has long since built anticipation surrounding his future college between Georgia and Oregon, has finally made his decision.
"Five-star passer Jared Curtis, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 class, announced his commitment to Georgia over Oregon Monday night, closing a fierce recruiting battle that sources told ESPN went 'down to the wire," ESPN's Eli Lederman noted.
Curtis had originally committed to the Bulldogs in March 2024 before reopening his commitment again in October 2024. Since then, Oregon has also been hot on Curtis's chase.
"He spent time on the phone with the coaching staffs from both schools Sunday afternoon. On Monday, sources in both programs remained unsure of Curtis' plans in the hours prior to his announcement. Sources in Curtis' camp told ESPN that representatives for the coveted quarterback prospect had prepared two commitment videos -- one for each school -- before Curtis made his public commitment to Georgia via social media on Monday," Lederman further noted.
"Curtis' father Jesse told ESPN after those visits that his son was 'torn real bad' between the pair of finalists. Georgia and Oregon maintained frequent contact with Curtis and his family in April and this past weekend before Curtis committed on Monday, returning to the Bulldogs' 2026 class exactly 200 days after pulling his pledge from the program last fall."
Curtis is expected to have the most hype entering the 2026 season and could prove himself to be a generational talent.
The real question would be how Smart deploys Curtis, given that both Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi would still be in the mix for the starting QB role. Smart could make him the backup to his QB1, and name him the starter after a year or so.
If Smart goes with the option of naming Curtis the starter in his freshman season, the chances of Stockton and Puglisi transferring go up. It will be a pivotal decision, in fact, 'The decision' for the Bulldogs in 2026.
