The Ryan Walters era in West Lafayette is not off to a good start. The former Illinois defensive coordinator is 5-12 as head coach of Purdue, with the lone win this season coming Week 1 against Indiana State.

FOX betting analyst Sam Panayotovich is concerned about this Purdue program, as a couple of seasons ago, it was in a much different spot.

"You talk about a Purdue team that went to the Big Ten Championship Game with Jeff Brohm {two years ago}," Panayotovich said on "The Bear Bets Podcast". "This hire looks worse and worse by the minute. They've got to move on because this program is in shambles."

Purdue has the second-worst scoring margin in all of college football, only ahead of Kent State. The Boilermakers have a -35.0 scoring margin so far in 2024, already ahead of the -27.0 margin they had last year when Walters took over the program.

Purdue's schedule does not get any easier going forward. They will take on No. 23 Illinois in Champaign on Saturday, before turning around and taking on Oregon and Penn State at home, as well as road trips to Michigan State and Ohio State. Purdue is a program that does not rush to let go of its head coaches, so it should be interesting to see what they do with Walters as the season progresses.
