Summer is a crucial time for landing commitments in the college football world. Programs across the country are working hard to secure pledges from top prospects before the high school season kicks into full gear. For Florida State, the 2026 recruiting class is shaping up to be impressive—they're currently ranked No. 12, according to 247Sports.

On June 26, the Seminoles secured a major commitment from 4-star wide receiver Jasen Lopez, an exceptionally athletic talent. His commitment represents a big win not just for the football team, but for the basketball program as well.

“Lopez is also a high-level basketball recruit with a scholarship offer from Luke Loucks and the basketball program as a point guard. He is expected to have a chance to play both sports in Tallahassee,” FSU Wire’s Matthew Lenix wrote.

Lopez appears pleased with his decision—and so does his family. He recently spoke about why he chose Florida State.

“Me and my family are super happy with the decision we made,” Lopez said. “We just kind of felt it was the best fit for me and the family, and playing both sports. I’m a different situation than a lot of other kids. So I felt like that was the best fit and situation for me.”

However, Lopez also made some comments that could raise concerns. While he has committed verbally to Florida State, he left the door open for continued recruitment.

“This isn’t me shutting down my recruitment. It’s just me committed to a school verbally,” Lopez said.

Lopez has the potential to be a standout dual-sport athlete at Florida State, but there’s no guarantee he makes it to campus. As he continues to entertain interest from other programs, Mike Norvell and his staff will need to put in significant effort to ensure he stays committed.
