Expectations are high this season for the Florida Gators and quarterback DJ Lagway.

Lagway, who had a breakout season for the team last year, is considered one of the top returning quarterbacks for 2025.

Last year, he threw for over 1,900 yards and 12 touchdowns, with his best game coming in the postseason against the Tulane Green Wave in the Gasparilla Bowl, where he threw for 305 yards and a touchdown in the Gators' 33-8 victory.

When Lagway is healthy, the Gators are one of the most dangerous teams on the field. When he isn’t, they struggle.

In the Georgia game last year, the Gators were in it until Lagway was injured, and they ended up losing, 34-20. Lagway had already scored in that game before he went out.

Now the concern for Gator fans has to be will their dream season be derailed if Lagway is injured?

Dave Waters, host of the podcast "Gators Breakdown," aired his concerns about Lagway on the McElroy and Cubic Show on Tuesday.

Water says Lagway may be held back the first few days of fall camp, which starts today, but the question is how long he will be out, and will the Gators sit him til the third game of the season against LSU.

“You are hoping DJ Lagway is out there because he does miss spring practice. It certainly sounds like he might be limited to start fall camp, maybe a week or two, and we’ll see how much that really impacts Florida.”

Waters added, “A week or two? I don’t think it’s too major, but that’s coming off of missing spring, so it does start to add up.”

Waters also doesn’t think that Lagway will be out there when the Gators start practice on Saturday. Not good news for a team, which such high expectations in 2025.
