It's apparent Urban Meyer loves college football, but enough for Meyer to firmly make a return to reminisce on the game he coached for 17 seasons at the highest level is a far different story. Meyer has moved on to the next chapter of his life.

During a recent edition of "The Triple Option" podcast, Meyer revealed he was nearly lured back into college football in a far different capacity: being a general manager. More specifically, succeeding Jim Nagy as the Senior Bowl director.

“I don’t know if I even told (co-hosts) Rob (Stone) and Mark (Ingram) this, but I had a school come see me this year and ask if I wanted to be the GM,” Meyer said. "And a couple other phone calls. And you start to think, ‘OK, they actually came to see me,’ so I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll meet and I’ll sit down with you guys.’ I said, ‘OK, what is the job description?’ They said, ‘Well, basically you meet with all the agents of the 17-, 18-year-olds.’"

Despite Meyer's brief interest in the role, the former national championship-winning coach quickly withdrew his interest upon learning about his mouthpiece's intent.

"I’d rather step on a rusty nail and pull it out myself," Meyer said.

Meyer gave Nagy kudos for his success in this specific college football realm, but Meyer recognized that few people can do what Nagy does.

“If that’s what you’ve got to do, Jim, God bless you,” Meyer said.

With the college football season right around the corner, Meyer's focus returns to his TV work while remaining a household name in the sport.
