The first round of the NFL Draft concluded on Thursday, and to the surprise of many, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was not selected. While teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants were rumored to be potential landing spots for him, both teams passed up on him with opportunities towards the end of the day.
While Sanders wasn't expected to be an early pick in the draft, his omission from the first round in its entirety was a surprise to many. That included Donald Trump, president of the United States.
Trump took to Truth Social, the social media platform that he owns, to criticize NFL owners and praise the Sanders family.

Sanders finished the 2024-25 season throwing for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He finished eighth in Heisman Trophy voting, and led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record. He's expected to be one of the first names called on Friday, when the second and third rounds take place. Trump advocated for his name to be called early, too.
"He should be 'picked' IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN," he said. "Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!"
