After reports earlier this week that he may miss the Florida Gators' first scrimmage, Florida quarterback DJ Lagway returned to practice
Early reports from practice are that Lagway looked solid. Lagway was returning from a calf injury, which saw him in a boot this past week, according to Gators Online Zach Abolverdi.
“Obviously he’s dealing with multiple things,” Abolverdi said on the Paul Finebaum Show. “The latest injury is this calf injury that we reported at Gators Online. There was a bunch of rumors that were circulating after it happened. And he was in a boot for this injury. And it was something that obviously caused him to miss the first day of practice.
Abolverdi added, “It’s not something that is expected to be a long-term thing or keep him out of camp. But it is something that did have him hobbling around and limping, and he’s not able to go here as they start practices.”
He missed spring practice due to both shoulder and hernia issues that have been lingering since high school.
Lagway’s injuries were a huge story going into fall camp, with many questioning if he would be able to play a whole season.
Lagway’s lingering injuries have become a huge concern for the Gators, who are expected to do big things this year.
This year is a huge year for Billy Napier as he goes into his third season. His fortunes depend on whether Lagway can stay healthy throughout the season, and at this point, it’s iffy.
There were reports as early as last week that the Gators may consider holding Lagway out of the first two games of the season to save him until they play LSU in the third game of the season, but that all depends if he can get through fall practice.
