Although he is recovering and making progress, Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway missed the Gators' first intrasquad scrimmage, according to the Gainesville Sun

Lagway is still nursing a calf injury he suffered just before the beginning of fall camp. Gators head coach Billy Napier says, despite the fact that Lagway sat out, the coach didn’t seem concerned about his absence.

"He's on schedule," Napier said. "He's executing our plan. You know, I think he had a great day (Monday). I think he had his best day today; he took more reps today than he's been taking.

"Obviously didn't participate in scrimmage, but he's, you know, he's hitting all his numbers from a throw perspective. Ball is coming out of his hand with more velocity than any time in his career. You know, I think he's just, obviously, we're working on the soft tissue with the calf, and we're going to, we're going to execute our plan there, so he'll be modified for a while here."

The times he has been able to join practice, Lagway has looked good according to most but it still has to be a concern for Gator coaches and fans that he still has a lingering injury going into this season.

There have even been some suggestions that Lagway missed the first few games of the season so he can totally heal from his injuries, but as of now, it doesn't seem like the team will do that.

Napier’s main goal seems to be to keep Lagway healthy ahead of their season opener as Napier explained.

"He's getting 70 competitive throws every day," he said. "So his workload is high, it’s just not with a pass rush, you know? Think we're controlling the environment, trying to take care of him from a soft tissue standpoint."
