Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders has left no stone unturned while bringing familiar faces to the coaching staff.
Some of his assistants include Warren Sapp and Marshall Faulk, two former NFL stars. Others rumored to be on the staff include Byron Leftwich and Mike Zimmer, both of whom have experience coaching in the NFL in recent years.
At Big 12 Media Days on Wednesday, Sanders gave an update on the status of those two, per Jake Schwanitz of DNVR.
"Coach Prime said he’s waiting to hear from Byron Leftwich and Mike Zimmer to join Colorado’s coaching staff."
It was reported in March that Leftwich, who was previously with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the offensive coordinator, was going to join Colorado's staff. But, Sanders saying he is waiting to hear from them is an interesting update.
Zimmer was spotted at a Colorado practice this Spring, fueling rumors of him also joining.
However, as per Sanders' statement, neither has joined as of yet.
If they do end up joining the staff in Boulder, it will give Sanders more experience on the sidelines, which could help lure players to the program as well.
Zimmer was with Sanders at Jackson State in 2022 as a consultant and again in 2023 at Colorado in a similar role. In 2024, Zimmer was with the Dallas Cowboys.
