Danny Kanell sends grave prediction on Miami Hurricanes QB Carson Beck image

Former Florida State Seminoles quarterback Danny Kanell sees unsettling similarities between this year’s Miami Hurricanes and what FSU experienced just last season.

And he sees transfer quarterback Carson Beck’s lack of support in Shannon Dawson’s offense.

Appearing on The Next Round, Kanell broke down why he’s concerned about Miami’s outlook, focusing on Beck and a challenging early schedule.

“I don’t think he’s going to have the supporting cast that he had at Georgia as far as the defense goes, even though their defense wasn’t quite as dominant,” Kanell said.

Beck’s recovery from offseason elbow surgery is also a concern.

“We haven’t seen many times coming back from this elbow surgery that Carson Beck is back from. It did cause him a lot of time to be getting reps with receivers an entire offseason,” Kanell said.

Kanell added that the expectations being placed on Miami mirror what Florida State faced heading into 2024, a season the Seminoles finished 2–10.

“I also understand that Miami could be playing in the ACC title game, but if you lay it out the way their season and the way the expectations are unfolding, it’s not that dissimilar to what Florida State went through a year ago,” Kanell said.

“They’re counting on a transfer quarterback who’s coming in with a little bit of a checkered past on the field as far as how there’s been inconsistencies. They’re relying on some portal players to step up, and the schedule is not favorable for Miami if they start off a little bit rough. That Notre Dame game in Week one, they play Florida early. If they fall behind the eight ball.”

Kanell also questioned whether Miami’s locker room can withstand adversity in today’s transfer-heavy college football culture.

“There’s not a lot of pride for your university. A lot of these guys don’t understand the history of the program, and they just want to play for the paycheck. As long as the check clears, then I’m good,” Kanell said.

“Meanwhile, you’re still the Miami Hurricanes. You’re going to get everybody else’s best shot and all of a sudden things can kind of fall apart.”

That’s why, in Kanell’s eyes, the Hurricanes have no choice but to come out swinging.

“They do have to get off to a fast start or I wonder how the season goes for the Canes,” Kanell concluded.
