Micah Parsons in a Buffalo Bills uniform? It may sound crazy to think about, but it is starting to sound possible.
In a development that caught many off guard, Parsons has reportedly requested a trade from the Cowboys.
As speculation builds about the Cowboys exploring a trade for their All-Pro linebacker, one team stands out as a match made in heaven. From a football perspective, the Bills should be first in line.
The Bills are close to having the roster that could get them to the SuperBowl. They have the quarterback, the coach and a roster built to win now. But when they have needed one more stop on defense, they have too often come up short. That is where Parsons changes everything.
Why the Bills make sense
The Bills brought in Von Miller a few years back but injuries and age led to him not being the player the front office envisioned.
Having already added Joey Bosa this offseason and while still having Greg Rousseau as one of the top young edge rushers in the league. But Parsons is a different animal. He is not just another pass rusher. He is a player who can tilt the field on any snap.
He would give The Bills the type of elite defensive presence it has missed in big games. Whether it is containing Patrick Mahomes, chasing Lamar Jackson or closing out pivotal playoff drives, Parsons can do it all.
The roadblocks are obvious
The Bills don't have the cap space currently to go get Parsons and sign him to a long-term term deal. A move of this magnitude would require contract restructuring and a willingness to part with serious draft capital.
The Bills have picked near the end of each round for several years, which lowers the value of the picks they can offer. But the logic is simple. If your team is built to win now, those picks matter less than finishing the job.
The window is still open
Parsons is 26 years old and already one of the most feared defenders in the NFL. He is versatile, explosive and relentless. The Bills should be doing everything in their power, to put together a package to make an offer to Dallas.
But the Bills should not wait. Their defense needs a finisher. Their roster needs one more piece. And their fan base needs something to believe in after another season of coming up just short.
Parsons might not be the easiest move to make, but he could be the one that finally changes everything.
