Football in Boulder is going to look a whole lot different this season, with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter now in the NFL. Colorado no longer has its star quarterback or its dynamic two-way player. This is also uncharted territory for head coach Deion Sanders, who now faces the challenge of proving whether his success is truly about coaching—or if his primary goal was simply getting his son to the league.
Shedeur is now with the Cleveland Browns, currently learning under Deshaun Watson. However, that situation may have taken a turn for the worse after his quarterback coach publicly criticized Coach Prime.
“The reason I have such a difficult time with Deion is because so many of the things he does, it’s about him rather than other people,” Avery said, referring to Sanders’ work as the coach at Colorado. “I think that a lot of people miss that. So we get to see who he is as a person when he has to take on this team without his sons involved.”
While that situation continues to develop, Sanders addressed the media at Big 12 Media Days on Wednesday. When asked about the quarterback position, he gave an unclear answer.
“We brought both of them because I don't know which one is going to start,” Sanders told reporters, referring to Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman JuJu Lewis. "We can't lose either way, with either of those two."
Sanders has also missed time recently due to health issues and was asked about that as well. His response raised some eyebrows.

“I’m really not going to tell you much. I’m not going to talk about my health," he said. "I'm living good. I’m living lovely. Not a care in the world."
There’s no doubt Sanders will face challenges on the field this year, but his health off the field could also complicate things. Time will tell whether his confident remarks at Big 12 Media Days reflect genuine well-being—or if he’s simply trying to appear tough in the spotlight.
