Shedeur Sanders may be one of the most disappointing stories in this year’s draft process. The former Colorado quarterback was once projected to go in the first or second round at best, but instead fell all the way to the fifth round. That kind of drop is unusual — Sanders turned teams that were initially interested in him into ones that weren’t.
“Teams give you things to challenge you; they’ll have a player’s worst play ready for them and ask, ‘Why don’t you explain this?’ At one point, one of the few teams that were actually interested asked. Shedeur said, ‘Maybe I’m not the guy for you,’” Colin Cowherd said.
Reports suggest that Sanders came off as unprepared in interviews, a move that backfired as word spread quickly around the league.
“At some of those [combine] meetings with certain teams that maybe Shedeur Sanders didn’t really want to go to... I was told that he more or less sandbagged in those interviews... I don’t know if he didn’t take them seriously, what it was, but he did not give it his all in some of those interviews,” CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones said.
As of now, Sanders is not expected to be the starter for the Browns this upcoming season. However, if he ends up being cut, there may already be a backup plan in place.
“Plus, according to the Toronto Star, the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League added Sanders to their list of 45 players they want on their negotiation list Wednesday, saving Sanders a roster spot in case he is eventually cut,” NJ.com’s Todderick Hunt wrote.

This development is worth watching, as Sanders might explore that CFL option. While his focus remains on the NFL, if he becomes dissatisfied with his place in the quarterback depth chart, he could request a release. Only time will tell — but if things don’t work out in the NFL, the next chapter may begin in the CFL.
