Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders let the Big 12, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens, and Wyoming Cowboys know that Kaidon Salter is coming this season.

Coming to “cause havoc,” by Coach Prime’s admission. Coming to leave defenses in the dust, scrambling out of broken plays with two-way skills that Sanders openly admired.

And, in a perfect world, coming to bring the Buffs to heights Shedeur Sanders couldn’t.

“Kaidon is a guy with multiple talents. He can throw the football. He can run the heck out of the football. Sometimes in practice, you don’t get a chance to see how good he is because when you run the quarterback, you know we can’t hit him,” Sanders said of the Liberty Flames transfer.

“But, you can see the burst, the speed, the knowledge of reading the defenses, and then he pulls it and keeps it. The kid is going to cause havoc. I’m just telling you.”

Of course, Shedeur’s ceiling was limited by the lack of protection in front of him. Shedeur was injured at the end of the 2023 season and frequently called out his teammates for blowing coverage – including a notable callout following a 28-10 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln last September.

Seeing a higher ceiling for CU and Salter isn’t a crazy thought because of how much has changed up front. Sanders now sees the offense’s biggest pitfall the past two falls as a strength.

“I’m truly proud of that group,” Sanders said of his offensive trenches after returning to campus following a battle with bladder cancer all offseason.

Salter and Julian Lewis may be deployed in different packages, taking Shedeur’s throne as QB1 in Colorado by committee. They’ll be blessed with advantages Shedeur never had.

Coach Prime knows that firsthand. Hence, letting CU’s opponents this season know in advance.
