The Michigan Wolverines may have found their future quarterback in five-star phenom Bryce Underwood.

Underwood is currently in a battle with Fresno State transfer quarterback Mikey Keene to become the Wolverines' starter this fall, but if receivers coach Ron Bellamy's recent comments suggest anything, head coach Sherrone Moore may have already made up his mind for this fall.

Speaking to reporters including 247Sports, Bellamy raved about what he has seen from Underwood thus far during live practice. Having not played a snap in Ann Arbor yet, Bellamy appears convinced the Wolverines' investment will pay off.

"He's unique," Bellamy said of Underwood. "Big kid, strong arm, accurate, super cerebral, super smart kid. I know we've had a lot of great quarterbacks at Michigan. I don't think it's fair to Bryce to say who to compare him to now because he hasn't taken a snap yet. Obviously, there's a lot of great things that he's done thus far."

Underwood isn't a legal adult just yet, but has a certain intangible that can't be taught: leadership, Bellamy said.

"In the short term, you can see it. You can definitely see it. But like I said, I'm most impressed with his leadership and he way he comes out there ready to go every day. For a young kid, that's pretty impressive."

It is unclear whether Underwood has done enough to beat out Keene, but Bellamy said that with Underwood's upside, it's likely not entirely ruled out.

"We all know about the physical attributes," Bellamy said. "But I think he's on the right track. He's definitely on the right track."

With over two months to go until the season opener, it seems the hype is only going to grow for Underwood.

Whether it translates on the field remains to be seen, but it's clear Underwood has started to win his teammates over.

It may be a sign of good things to come, but only time will tell.
