Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders might be finding a new home or competing for a starting role somewhere else by the start of the 2026 season.

It’s been said that the Browns may just be stringing Sanders along while they wait to draft a first-round talent in the 2026 NFL draft to make him the face of their franchise.

Furthermore, this would not only put Sanders, but also fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel’s future at stake in Berea.

Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante believes Clemson’s Cade Klubnik would be the one replacing the rookies in Cleveland.

“Cade Klubnik made considerable strides in 2024. He’s an accurate passer with good poise in the pocket and underrated mobility. His consistency, rhythm, and decision-making all give him a high floor and project him as a potential long-term starter in the NFL,” Infante writes.

“Although the Cleveland Browns drafted Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in 2025, neither came with the kind of draft capital that typically signals a long-term commitment. If Cleveland finishes with the league’s worst record, they’d be smart to take a swing at a true franchise QB.”

And all of this is despite the impressive performance both Sanders and Gabriel have displayed during the OTAs and the minicamp.

If that is the long-term planning brewing in the Browns' front office, chances are, Stefanski will give both rookies at least one start this season. That is if both of them make it to the final 53-man roster, of course.

Sanders appears the most vulnerable here since he is the likeliest to miss a spot in the 53-man roster per reports. Gabriel could prove himself further in the season, but Sanders will not have much room for that in the practice squad.

Sanders' eyes have been on becoming the Browns’ franchise QB as part of his redemption arc ever since his draft stock slid to round five.

If he gets traded from there, he would have to gravely rethink his redemption.
