LSU is quarterbacked by Garrett Nussmeier

The SEC has long been the dominant college football conference. They are also gaining ground and becoming the premier conference in basketball and baseball as well, but that's a story for a different day. In football, the SEC reigns supreme and it pretty much has for a long time. In 2025, at least on offense, that's unlikely to change.

College football insider Brad Crawford of CBS Sports listed 10 teams that are "guaranteed to produce fireworks" in 2025. Half of them reside in the SEC, proving once again how dominant that conference truly is. What's perhaps even more impressive is that the list doesn't include some traditional powers like Alabama and Georgia.

The five SEC programs were South Carolina (ninth), Ole Miss (seventh), Oklahoma (sixth), Texas (third), and LSU (second). Those five offenses are apparently poised to dominate. For South Carolina, LaNorris Sellers is the game-changer here. Their strength is the dynamic QB they have, and he'll take them as far as they'll go.

Ole Miss plays with tempo, and that should lead to success. "Pencil in Lane Kiffin to put out an elite offense every year, regardless of personnel... Ole Miss may have to win a couple shootouts against elite-tier competition given the questions on the other side of the football," Crawford said.

Oklahoma's new philosophy on that side of the ball is likely to produce big results. Crawford said that new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle's version of the Air Raid is set to dominate with John Mateer following him over. For the Texas Longhorns, it simply comes down to having Arch Manning, a benefit no other team has. It doesn't hurt that their backfield is elite, too.

And finally, LSU is led by a veteran QB and a reliably deep WR room. "Blessed with the potential top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft at quarterback, Brian Kelly is expecting his best season yet at LSU. The Tigers signed the nation's top-ranked class in the transfer portal, ensuring Garrett Nussmeier has ample targets in the passing game," Crawford concluded.
