The Alabama Crimson Tide held their second fall scrimmage Saturday afternoon, and head coach gave his thoughts afterwards on the progress on Ty Simpson, the Alabama secondary, and injury updates.

DeBoer talked about the progression of Ty Simpson in practice "He came out and executed the offense and continues to be steady, and finds his times to make plays. ... and today, he used his feet again. I think that's something people will underestimate."

He also talked about how well the offensive line looked and how well they have been protecting the quarterbacks.

"The pass protection is giving the quarterbacks a chance to keep their eyes downfield."

DeBoer did address the Alabama secondary, which hasn’t been talked about much so far, but the coach says that doesn’t mean they aren’t making plays throughout fall camp.

"I thought the defense today, in the secondary, did a great job of getting guys on the ground,” DeBoer said. He added, "(They)still not getting the picks," but is still producing.”

One of the last things DeBoer addressed is injuries. It seems the injury bug may have hit the Tide a little bit, but he didn’t seem that concerned about it.

He mentioned that the team was a little bit “beat up” after the first two scrimmages and that Jaeden Roberts and James Smith did not scrimmage.

He said Smith has made progress and is "getting closer" to coming back, and Roberts is going through concussion protocol.

The one thing the coach didn’t address was who is winning the backup quarterback battle. Many fans are curious as to who will back up Ty Simpson, but the media didn’t get that answer Saturday.

He also didn’t mention who is going to be the Tide’s punter or kicker this season, as that battle continues as well.
