On a night that should have been all about West Virginia’s dominating victory over No. 11 Iowa State, the topic changed quickly late in the game.

First, Cyclones forward Dustin Hogue crane-kicked Mountaineer Kevin Noreen in the stomach while grabbing a rebound.

He was given a flagrant foul type 1 on the play.

Shortly afterward, Iowa State’s Monte Morris took a loose ball and went to the rim, where he was clobbered by West Virginia’s Eron Harris.

It was an ugly act, and clearly much more than a standard basketball attempt to block a shot.

The play, in fact, was reminiscent of the Duke-North Carolina game in 2007 when Duke’s Gerald Henderson hit Tyler Hansbrough with an elbow on a play under the basket.

At the time of the foul, West Virginia led, 88-59, with 4:25 left in the game. Harris was ejected after officials reviewed the play. It’s fair to assume he will be suspended by the Big 12, too.
