Two-way contracts are being signed left and right in the wake of last week’s NBA draft as teams build out their programs and prepare for Summer League play.

The Charlotte Hornets announced their summer roster Wednesday, which included a league legacy and notable G League guard from the Celtics’ system.

DJ Rodman, son of legendary NBA small forward Dennis Rodman.

Rodman spent 14 years in the league, winning three championship rings with the Bulls (1996, 1997, 1998) and two with the Pistons (1989, 1990). Best known for his rebounding prowess, the 6-foot-8 forward led the league in rebounds per game for a record-setting seven consecutive seasons from 1991 to 1998.

The younger Rodman was selected out of USC by the Capital City Go-Go in October 2024 with the 43rd overall pick in the G League Draft.

His start was rocky.

The Wizards’ affiliate waived him Nov. 24, then re-acquired him from the player pool Nov. 29 before releasing him again Dec. 3. The 6-foot-6 guard was picked up by his current team, the Maine Celtics, within the day. They waived him after a little over a month, Jan. 9, but re-acquired Rodman from the player pool two days later.

In Maine, Rodman’s beginning to find his footing. The 24-year-old started 21 of 25 games played, averaging 6.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest.

His shooting accuracy needs improvement both within the arc (42%) and beyond (40%). However, he doesn’t take many shots to begin with. Per game, Rodman averages 2.4 made shots on 5.7 attempts, and just 1.3 made 3-pointers on 3 attempts.

The Celtics have yet to release their official summer league roster and were still signing players Wednesday, but Rodman will be suiting up for the Hornets.

Rodman is listed as both a guard and forward on a guard-heavy roster, along with Duke’s Kon Knueppel and UNC-Wilmington’s Jaylen Sims. The Hornets have nine total potential guards, with Damion Baugh (TCU), Dajuan Harris Jr. (Kansas), Sion James (Duke), Jamiya Neal (Creighton), KJ Simpson (Colorado) and MJ Walker Jr. (Florida State) all suiting up for Charlotte.

Practice begins Monday, July 7 in Las Vegas and Summer League competition will take place July 10-20.
