Michigan State was favored to beat Ole Miss by 3.5 points in the Sweet 16.

With four seconds left, the Spartans led by six points. MSU bettors felt relatively secure. Rebels backers were about to come up just short.

And then the basketball betting gods said, not so fast.

Ole Miss dribbled down the floor against lax defense for a shot that meant essentially nothing, except to the spread.

Matthew Murrell flung up a leaning 3-pointer from the top of the arc. He shot it too long, but it hit the dead part of the crotch of the rim and dropped in the hoop.

Final: Michigan State 73, Ole Miss 70, a backdoor cover of the highest order by Mississippi.
