Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant is likely on the move again.
Since leaving the Golden State Warriors, Durant’s pursuits to build star-caliber teams elsewhere have fallen short. He fell flat of championship expectations with the Suns and Brooklyn Nets, leading to yet another team switch for the two-time Finals MVP.
One Bleacher Report article proposed sending Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Fred VanVleet, forward Cam Whitmore, and three first-round picks. This would pair Durant with Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun. Durant, regarded as one of the league’s all-time greatest scorers, boasts four scoring titles and an MVP campaign during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“They might be a go-to scorer away from contending for a championship,” the article wrote. “Their defense and tenacity are already built for basketball's biggest stage, but they don't have the creation and shot-making to survive four playoff rounds. Do a deal for Durant, though, and suddenly one of history's greatest scorers could take care of that.”
Houston returned to relevance for the first time since 2020, clinching the No. 2 seed in the West and making the postseason. This trade would give Houston a dynamic No. 1 scorer to complement or help Green. The Rockets guard had an underwhelming postseason, averaging just 13.3 points on 37.2 percent shooting. He scored more than 12 points just once against the Warriors, which many believe signals the need for a superstar option.
The Rockets may have to give a little more though, when considering the hauls for players like Mikal Bridges (New York Knicks) and Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves) in recent trades.
