The New York Knicks are still searching for that last missing piece to fill out their final roster spot, and momentum is heading towards bringing back a familiar face.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks are strongly considering bringing back veteran sharpshooter Landry Shamet. The 28-year-old spent last season with the team, and could be back to fill out the final roster spot.
“I think there’s a lot of support internally for bringing Shamet back,” Begley said on The Putback. “I think there’s a lot of respect for what he did last year with the shoulder injury, getting back on the floor, impacting things in the postseason when he came back in the rotation after not being in it for so long.
“I would assume that he would be back.”
Shamet played sparingly last season for the Knicks under Tom Thibodeau, but made a positive impact when given the chance. He averaged 5.7 points per game in 50 appearances last season, and shot 40 percent from three-point range.
Shamet perhaps earned his stripes with the Knicks when he stepped back into the rotation during the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 5.8 points per game in four appearances, and was a team-high +21 in his minutes.
Bringing back a player with continuity with the current roster, and one who is willing to take on whatever role the team asks of him could be very beneficial for a Knicks squad that will be gunning for a championship this upcoming season.
