New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns offered his support to MLB star Ketel Marte in light of Marte’s unfortunate incident with a fan on Tuesday night.
Marte could be seen crying on the field on Tuesday after a fan made a comment directed at Marte about his mother, who passed away in a car accident in 2017. The fan who made the comment was subsequently ejected, and later banned from all MLB stadiums.
Towns took to X on Thursday to show his support for the MLB star.
“Some things should never be said. @KetelMarte4 your mother is proud, and so are we,” Towns wrote.
Towns, 29, also lost his mother, Jackie, in 2020 due to complications brought on by COVID-19. Towns has been vocal about the impact that his mother had on his life, and has shared his experiences with dealing with her death.
“It just got to a point where it was harming her,” Towns said in a YouTube video posted in 2020. “I gave her all the time, and I made the hardest decision you can make. I called my sister, I told her what the decision I made was. You've got to live with that. I made that decision.”
Towns also said in that same video that his best way of coping with the loss of his mother is by uplifting others, which still rings true today with his support for Marte being the latest example.
“I think for me, I think if I was to say how am I coping and how am I healing from this, I'm trying to heal myself through others,” Towns said.
