The Los Angeles Lakers made some moves on draft night. They were slotted to have the 55th overall pick, but through two trades, they moved up in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft to grab the 36th overall pick. With that pick, they took a wing out of Arkansas, Adou Thiero. Let’s look at a possible Adou Thiero player comp that should have Lakers fans very excited.
Thiero is a super athlete with tons of upside. He is 6’8”, considered one of the best dunkers in the 2025 NBA Draft class, and has already shown impressive defensive ability.
NBA.com put out Adou Thiero’s player comp in their NBA draft profile.
“Thiero’s ceiling will ultimately be decided by how his 3-point shot develops, but his elite athleticism and impressive length give him a solid floor as an impactful defender who can crash the glass and finish at the rim. Thiero’s game is reminiscent of Jalen Johnson and Noah Clowney coming out of college as lengthy defenders who can be used in small-ball lineups and get to the rim by cutting off-ball or running in transition.”
If Thiero becomes a player like Jalen Johnson, the Lakers will be super dangerous. Johnson has slowly become one of the best young wings in the NBA. The Lakers could use a long, athletic defender next to Luka Dončić, and Thiero could become that guy.
