The Houston Rockets had too many centers. Somebody had to go.

ESPN's Shams Charania reports that Jock Landale will be the odd man out. Houston is waiving him.

Landale started three games for the Rockets each of the past two seasons.

The Australian 6-foot-11 big fella was a college star at Saint Mary's.

In the NBA, he averages 5.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in low minutes between the Spurs, Suns and Rockets. He is efficient, a 51.8% shooter from the floor.

Charania's report also indicates that Landale will sign with his "preferred destination" after he clears waivers. That suggests Landale might already know where he's going, although the report doesn't clear it up.

Houston has All-Star Alperen Sengun. Then the Rockets re-signed Steven Adams. And then they came to an agreement with Clint Capela, who now looks like he'll be involved in a sign-and-trade from Atlanta in the shaping-up historic 7-team Kevin Durant trade.

It's not even clear how they'll make that trio work, so it's probably a good thing for Landale to get out now and have a chance to find a new home.
