The Dallas Mavericks have some moves to make this offseason, and adding a guard should be their top priority.

While Luka Doncic has been in Los Angeles for nearly five months, the Mavericks still expected to enter next season with Kyrie Irving running the show. Although Irving’s contract situation moving forward is still uncertain, he is expected to be in Dallas next season, but he’ll be out for a large chunk of the year.

Although the Mavericks won’t have Irving early, they’ll still have some star power with Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg set to form a dynamic frontcourt duo. Yet, for everything to come together for the Mavericks, they almost certainly need a highly skilled guard to make things click.

Although the Mavericks could explore free agency, a trade might be the best route, and their ideal candidate might have just become available. According to a report from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Sacramento Kings have been shopping Malik Monk and Devin Carter.

After averaging 17.2 points and 5.6 assists last season, Monk could be the perfect player to replace Irving and eventually play alongside him. A potential deal to get Monk to Dallas could feature P.J. Washington and Caleb Martin heading to Sacramento.

Considering the Kings’ log jam in the backcourt, specifically with DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, Sacramento could find value in adding some versatile forwards. Meanwhile, the deal also helps the Mavericks’ abundance of bigs and forwards and brings a much-needed backcourt scorer and playmaker into the fold.

This deal obviously doesn't fix everything in Dallas, but Monk could be the guy who helps the Mavericks get back on their championship track.
