There is plenty of excitement surrounding the Dallas Mavericks and their outlook heading into the 2025 offseason, specifically after navigating a turbulent 2024-25 campaign, one marked by a blockbuster trade that sent  Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Mavericks hold the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, with a chance to select Duke phenom Cooper Flagg, who is widely considered to be a generational prospect and the top prospect.

Additionally, they may be looking to reshape their backcourt, with Kyrie Irving expected to miss the majority of next season. According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the Mavericks have an interest in acquiring Boston Celtics' Point guard, Jrue Holiday.

"League sources say Dallas is expected to at least explore whether there are any feasible trade pathways to Boston’s Jrue Holiday — complicated as that would likely be given the three years and $104 million still left on Holiday's contract," Stein wrote in his The Stein Line Substack.

The Celtics are motivated to reduce their payroll to stay under the luxury tax threshold, which makes them more open to exploring trades.

Holiday, who turns 35 this year, is coming off a down year, one in which he averaged 11.1 points per game and 3.9 assists. Despite the dip in production, he is still an elite defender and could serve as a valuable replacement for Irving while he recovers from the ACL tear he suffered during last season.

He signed a contract extension last season and will make $32.4 million next season.

The Mavs are in win-now mode with a core that still features Anthony Davis, Derick Lively, P.J. WashingtonP.J. Washington, and the potential No. 1 overall pick, as well as Irving once he is healthy.

If a trade occurs, the Celtics will shed salary, while the Mavericks will add a win-now player to their roster.
