The Dallas Mavericks have many decisions to make this offseason, and they must set up Cooper Flagg for success.

Although the Mavericks have championship aspirations next season, they will be without Kyrie Irving for most of the season and will be looking to get their No. 1 pick adjusted to the NBA. One of the easiest ways to set up Flagg for success would be to make him feel comfortable in the early stages of his career.

While Irving will be on the sidelines for the beginning of Flagg’s career, the Mavericks could bring in another playmaker to help the potential star. According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel’s latest mock draft article, the Mavericks are trying to persuade Chris Paul to come to Dallas.

The expectation has been for Dallas to explore ways to get another talented lead guard on the roster, and Paul could be the perfect fit for multiple reasons. Not only has the five-time assist champion shown his ability to mentor young stars, but a stop in Dallas could also help him inch closer to a championship if all goes well.

Last season, the now-40-year-old started in all 82 games for the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists. After being a perfect playmaker for Victor Wembanyama, Pau could have the same impact for Flagg and Anthony Davis next year.

While Paul has reported interest in returning to Los Angeles to be near his family again, he might not have many years left in the tank, and an opportunity to help Flagg adjust to the league and maybe compete for a title might be too good to pass up.
