A day from now, Cooper Flagg will almost certainly be selected first-overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2025 NBA Draft. The 18-year-old will join a team in which he should have an immediate impact right away.
Ahead of the draft, Flagg spoke with members of the media regarding his thoughts about potentially going first-overall. He told Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News how he is feeling about the strong possibility of him landing in Dallas with the Mavericks.
“No matter what happens tomorrow, for me it’s just about being grateful and just really enjoying the moment,” Flagg said. “I think it would be a great experience if that does happen.”
Flagg is considered by many to be one of the most impressive prospects in quite some time. He won’t be under the typical circumstances that a first-overall pick normally endures, as the 6’9 two-way forward will join a team that is looking to compete for a championship next season. He’ll play alongside Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and potentially Kyrie Irving if he returns from a torn ACL next season.
Flagg is coming off of an incredible season at Duke in which he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, leading Duke to an appearance in the Final Four.
His spectacular season came with no shortage of accolades. Flagg was named AP Player of the Year, Wooden Award winner, Naismith Award winner, ACC Player of the Year, and was named a Consensus All-American.
