Dell Curry believes drafting Brandon Miller was, is, and will continue to be, a home run for the Charlotte Hornets organization.
Miller was selected No. 2 overall during the 2023 NBA draft and has blossomed into a 21-point-per-game scorer in just two years. Curry, the Hornets’ play-by-play commentator and all-time leading scorer, is thankful he got to witness two straight years of rapid development, both on the floor from a skills perspective and off the floor as a locker room presence.
Curry expects it to continue working out between Miller and Charlotte.
Possibly enough to bring a championship to the Queen City.
“ He's a special skillset player. Can stretch the floor with his shooting, can put it on the floor and create his own. He is a focused young man. Another mature guy who wants to be the best player that he can. He comes from a very good family,” Curry told me last week.
“I know his mom and dad pretty well. They’re very involved in his career, keeping him focused on basketball. He wants to be the best player that he could be, that he can become. I love his attitude. He comes to work every day ready to play. He's a fun, joyous guy. Fun to be around.
“He’s a talent. He’s the guy that you want around your locker room, you want on the floor. He wants to play every single night. He'll play through injury. He wants to be challenged. He’s gonna be a really good defender with his wingspan, his ability to move his feet. He can be a two way player that can help a franchise to its goal in winning a championship.
“So we have a special talent, Brandon Miller.”
Those are bold words from the Hornets’ ultimate spokesperson, but Miller is already one of the most successful draft picks in franchise history.
In this era of rebuilds actually working out, like the Oklahoma City Thunder’s this year and the Boston Celtics’ last year, who’s to say Charlotte can’t one day ride Miller to its first banner?
Curry provided media availability in advance of the 2025 American Century Championship at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort from July 9-13. Curry will be one of the 91 competitors in Stateline, Nevada, for the annual celebrity golf tournament, which will be broadcast on NBC, Peacock, and the GOLF Channel.
