Paul Goldschmidt was a St. Louis Cardinals superstar in his stint with the team from 2019 to 2024. After being traded to the team in 2018, Goldschmidt went on to earn four Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards, and an NL MVP in 2022. He ultimately decided to leave the team, signing with the New York Yankees last offseason on a one-year, $12.5 million deal.
Since joining the Yankees for the 2025 season, he's continued his impressive hitting statistics. But on Aug. 12, Goldschmidt came down with a low-grade knee sprain and has been sitting out of New York's lineup since.
His status for the Yankees' upcoming series against the St. Louis Cardinals is in question, and manager Aaron Boone has hinted that the former MVP could spend some time on the injured list. Goldschmidt has expressed his feelings about the injury and his return to Busch Stadium.
"I don't need any extra motivation to try to heal. I'll do everything I can. We want to go there and play well, and hopefully, I'll get a chance to play there," Goldschmidt said, according to Peter Botte of the New York Post.
The Yankees' first baseman is uncertain for his return to Busch Stadium in a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Still, he will travel with the team in hopes of rejoining the lineup this weekend, Botte confirmed.

In the three-game series between the Cardinals and the Yankees, every game will count for both sides. The New York Yankees have continued to struggle over the past couple of months. They are on the verge of losing the last spot in the AL Wild Card and only have a half-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are looking to enter postseason contention. St. Louis is just 3.5 games behind the New York Mets for the final spot in the NL Wild Card.
